What is the number one work-related issue in your work group or company that is nagging at you right now?

If you could improve productivity for everyone in your work group by saving one hour of wasted time per day (x number of employees x 240 workdays/year), what would that be worth to your company? What would that enable your work group to do that you are not doing now?

What is one area -- that if your work group focused on over the next three months -- would make a huge positive difference in the quality of your product or service? Describe some measurable outcomes you desire. Then imagine that your work group has already accomplished these outcomes and describe what this would do for your company. In the space below the example, identify your focus area, measurable outcomes, and motivation for focusing on this.

EXAMPLE

Focus Area
Manage time well.

Measurable Outcomes:
  • We begin and end meetings on time.
  • Meeting agendas are created so certain members of the work group don’t have to sit through parts of the meeting that do not pertain to them.
  • Our team gets tasks accomplished by the deadline without sacrificing quality.
  • Employees are not asked to forfeit vacation time or work overtime.
  • We have realistic goals and timelines for new projects.
  • Team members carve out protected time for working on important long-term projects.
  • Team members carve out protected time for handling weekly administrative functions such as filing and data entry.
Motivation - what this will do for our work group
  • Valuable group time is not wasted.
  • Our work group is keeping our commitment to the customer and is delivering a product we are all proud of.
  • Customers are happy, resulting in referrals and repeat business.
  • Employees are getting home to have dinner with their families and are able to take deserved vacations.
  • Employees are able to take lunch breaks and coffee breaks without feeling guilty.
  • Stress level has gone down.
  • Big projects are receiving attention over time rather than most of it getting done in the 11th hour.
  • Overnight Express is no longer necessary, reducing overhead costs and increasing profit margin.
  • Administrative functions are no longer piling up, so team members can find filed or electronic information when they need it.
  • The profit-sharing plan offers greater bonuses at the end of the year.
